Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This role focuses on enhancing search capabilities and delivering a robust search experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine offering, ensuring speed and relevance.
• Develop new search features and fix bugs in Elasticsearch, aiming to simplify the codebase.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Expertly identify and drive improvements in Elasticsearch search relevance.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests, facilitating their resolution.
• Write modern, idiomatic Java, as Elasticsearch is predominantly Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience implementing vector similarity techniques on search platforms or academic research in this area.
• Professional background with search or vector databases, utilizing relevant algorithms and libraries.
• Solid proficiency in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously from project inception to completion, including technical design.
• Experience with collaborative code development and feedback processes.
• Familiarity with various data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.
• History of using AI to enhance development processes and optimize code.
• Proven capability to collaborate effectively across teams and manage transitions between different projects.
