The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team at Elastic as a Senior Software Engineer. This globally distributed team focuses on delivering a robust search experience using advanced techniques in vector similarity within Elasticsearch.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading search engine offering, emphasizing speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch by building new search features and fixing bugs, focusing on code clarity.
• Work with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Be an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance and identify improvements.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java code, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience in vector similarity on a search platform or in relevant academic research.
• Professional experience with search or vector databases, and familiarity with relevant algorithms and libraries.
• Solid skills in core Java, including data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage projects from design to implementation.
• Experience in collaborative development and giving/receiving feedback.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Proven track record of using AI to enhance development and code optimization.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and transition between different projects seamlessly.
