Senior Staff Software Engineer, Core Infrastructure @Robinhood

Overview

The Senior Staff Software Engineer in Core Infrastructure will drive the architectural evolution of foundational systems that support trading, crypto, and expansion into new markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Own service mesh architecture, standardizing and evolving Robinhood's Istio and Envoy deployment.
• Drive Kubernetes compute platform evolution, defining long-term strategies for cluster lifecycle and multi-region resiliency.
• Redesign infrastructure provisioning to transform Terraform into a scalable, self-service platform.
• Diagnose and resolve issues at the Kubernetes and Terraform layers.
• Produce architecture proposals and lead design reviews across engineering teams.

Requirements

• Deep expertise with Kubernetes internals (API server, controller reconciliation, etc.).
• Working knowledge of Istio and/or Envoy at the source code level.
• Knowledge of HTTP/2 and gRPC wire-level protocols.
• Experience with Terraform at architectural scale.
• Proficient in production Go or Python for infrastructure tooling.
• Ability to influence architectural changes across engineering organizations.

Location

Remote role based in the United States with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week in Menlo Park, California.
