Senior Technical Writer @Starburst

Overview

Starburst is seeking a Senior Technical Writer who will own complex documentation initiatives and influence content delivery in a technical environment. This role involves collaborating with engineers and product managers while utilizing AI-assisted tooling to enhance documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, write, and improve comprehensive technical documentation related to configuration, deployment, integration, and query reference content.
• Work directly with software engineers and subject matter experts to gather technical details and manage review cycles.
• Lead documentation initiatives for major platform and product projects.
• Develop content for AI consumability and evaluate its performance in search contexts.
• Apply structured content approaches to target audiences effectively.
• Contribute to documentation standards and peer review processes.
• Advocate for documentation needs in product development planning.
• Assist in piloting AI-assisted drafting tools and evaluate their quality.
• Represent content requirements in tooling evaluations during replatforming initiatives.

Requirements

• 7+ years of technical writing experience with a strong portfolio of developer-facing documentation.
• Demonstrated autonomous work in fast-paced environments.
• Experience with complex SaaS, cloud, or data platform documentation.
• Proven ability to manage SME relationships and drive review cycles.
• Proficiency in docs-as-code workflows, Git/GitHub, Markdown, and static site generators.
• Interest in content architecture and emerging documentation tooling.
• Excellent written communication skills in US English.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with AI consumption of documentation is a strong plus.
• Basic scripting/automation exposure is nice to have.
