Software Engineer 3 @MongoDB

Overview

The Agent Research and Tooling team, part of MongoDB's AI Builder Experience organization, focuses on building and maintaining the tooling and evaluation systems for agent skills. This software engineering role is at the intersection of developer tooling, applied AI, and software quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain agent skills and the infrastructure for validation, evaluation, publication, and maintenance.
• Design evaluation datasets and workflows to compare agent behavior against a baseline.
• Build agent metrics and observability for skill selection, success and failure outcomes, and resource usage.
• Create safety and quality gates for agent-authored content.
• Develop command-line tools, reusable libraries, and CI integrations.
• Implement code-generation quality checks and investigate failures for improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers, security partners, and product teams to communicate technical matters.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in software engineering, developer tools, or automation systems.
• Fundamentals in API design, testing, error handling, and maintainability.
• Experience building CLIs, libraries, and CI/CD workflows.
• Able to design systems that are reliable in automation.
• Experience reasoning about correctness and safety with ambiguous input.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
