Pinterest is seeking a highly technical Engineering Manager for their Applied Science team, responsible for managing a team of machine learning researchers and engineers focused on modern recommendation systems. The role involves setting the technical roadmap and collaborating across various teams to advance Pinterest’s mission through innovative machine learning solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap and strategic vision for next-generation recommendation systems, advocating for state-of-the-art ML techniques.
• Transition breakthrough ML research into production-ready systems impacting core company metrics.
• Manage and develop a team of machine learning researchers and engineers, balancing cutting-edge research with foundational work.
• Collaborate with engineering, ads, infrastructure, content, and data science teams to prototype and scale solutions to complex challenges.

Requirements

• 7+ years of combined academic and industry experience in applying ML technologies to real-world problems, with 3+ years of people management experience.
• A proven track record of delivering high-impact initiatives across product areas.
• Experience mentoring and developing software and machine learning engineers.
• A self-motivated learner with an interest in staying updated on industry trends.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical findings for various audiences.
• MS/PhD in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field.
• Nice to have: Publishing at top-tier ML/RecSys conferences and experience with modern LLM/Agentic workflows.

Location
