Staff Engineer SQL Engine @Yugabyte

Overview

Yugabyte is the company behind YugabyteDB, a distributed PostgreSQL database designed for cloud-native applications. The Staff Engineer plays a key role in developing and scaling core database features for YugabyteDB's SQL layer.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, testing, and release of new database features and enhancements in YugabyteDB.
• Write high-quality C/C++ code and participate in code reviews.
• Identify and implement performance improvements, including plan optimization and batching.
• Improve database scalability and throughput as system demands grow.
• Contribute to the open-source YugabyteDB project and enhance distributed SQL capabilities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues in distributed query planning and execution.
• Mentor and influence engineers in best practices for database systems.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering with expertise in C/C++.
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of systems engineering, distributed systems, and databases.
• Experience with database internals, compilers, or query optimization is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a distributed team environment.

Benefits

Competitive cash compensation ranging from USD 150,000 to USD 250,000, inclusive of variable compensation. Benefits include health plans, retirement plans, and unlimited paid time off (PTO).

Location

Hybrid model with the team working in the Sunnyvale office 2–3 days per week.
