Overview

The Emerging Team at Pendo is dedicated to building AI products for its product experience platform. The role of Staff Software Engineer (AI) focuses on designing and building production-grade AI systems to enhance how software teams understand and serve users.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build AI-native systems, including RAG pipelines and LLM-powered product features.
• Make decisions regarding prompting, fine-tuning, and technical approaches, communicating tradeoffs clearly.
• Implement evaluation frameworks and guardrails to ensure model outputs are reliable and perform well.
• Own model deployment, monitoring, and optimization to maintain performance at scale.
• Contribute across the stack to deliver complete AI products to users.
• Partner with product and design teams to define problems before implementation.
• Stay informed on research and advancements in AI technologies and integrate relevant findings into the team's work.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building LLM-powered systems and AI engineering.
• Ability to set technical directions for AI systems and establish architectural patterns.
• Experience in driving outcomes across teams and influencing organizational AI approaches.
• Strong understanding of model evaluation and architecture.
• Experience with model deployment and optimizing AI systems in live environments.
• Strong full-stack fundamentals for delivering user-facing AI products.
• Exceptional communication skills for explaining complex technical decisions.
• Demonstrated product judgment when evaluating potential projects.

Location

This is a hybrid role requiring in-office attendance 3 days per week, based in New York, NY.
