Overview
Pinterest is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join their Observability team. This role focuses on building observability solutions that empower engineering organizations, utilizing technical expertise in distributed systems and data engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the observability roadmap as a product, incorporating the needs of the engineering team.
- Architect, build, and scale distributed observability infrastructure (metrics, logs, traces) across Pinterest's systems.
- Create high-performance data pipelines for real-time and historical telemetry analysis.
- Establish observability standards across the organization.
- Provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and influence technical decisions.
- Collaborate with SRE, Infrastructure, and Product Engineering teams to enhance developer productivity and system reliability.
- Stay updated on observability trends and technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 7+ years designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience building data pipelines and working with time-series databases.
- Hands-on experience with observability tools (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Proficient in programming languages like Java, Python, Go, or Scala.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures.
- Strong communication skills to influence stakeholders.
- Contributions to open-source observability projects are a plus.
