Staff Software Engineer, PEO Benefits @Gusto

Overview

Gusto is seeking a seasoned full-stack Software Engineer to join its Professional Employer Organization (PEO) Benefits team. This role involves shaping features from design to launch, working within a significant initiative aimed at lowering healthcare costs for small businesses.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and test the Gusto PEO Benefits experience, including benefits shopping and plan-recommendation flows.
• Mentor other engineers to tackle complex technical challenges.
• Help scale one of the largest Ruby/Rails and Javascript/React applications globally.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Data, Design, and Platform Engineering teams to address customer pain points.
• Develop products aimed at delivering exceptional customer experience.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience.
• 3+ years of PEO expertise with proven experience in high-growth environments.
• Ability to drive large, cross-functional projects end-to-end.
• Experience with AI tools to enhance development and testing processes.
• Strong mentorship skills to enhance team performance.
• Familiarity with Ruby on Rails is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills across engineering teams and stakeholders.

Benefits

• Competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs).
• Cash compensation range of $163,000–$204,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $197,000–$247,000 for San Francisco & New York.

Location

This is a remote position with the requirement to travel to Gusto's office for onboarding. Employees in Denver, San Francisco, and New York are expected to work from the office 2-3 days per week.
