WHO Hiring Operations and Logistics Support Officer in Egypt for Gaza Emergency Response Operations
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a new international volunteer opportunity for an Operations and Logistics Support Officer based in El Arish, Egypt, supporting emergency health operations connected to Gaza.
The six-month full-time assignment, offered through the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, is open to international candidates with experience in logistics, humanitarian operations, procurement, and emergency response.
Applications remain open until June 30, 2026.
The position comes as humanitarian agencies continue scaling emergency medical and logistics operations linked to the Gaza crisis and broader regional health emergencies.
According to WHO, the selected volunteer will support the organization’s Operations Support and Logistics (OSL) Egyptian Corridor Team, helping coordinate the movement, storage, procurement, and delivery of essential medical supplies entering Gaza through Egypt.
The assignment will be based primarily in El Arish, a strategic logistics hub near the Rafah border crossing, with close coordination between Cairo-based WHO teams and operations in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
WHO noted that the role may also support similar future UN Volunteer positions in Cairo and El Arish.
The role falls under the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (WHE), which focuses on helping countries prevent, prepare for, detect, and respond to disease outbreaks, humanitarian crises, and public health emergencies.
In the occupied Palestinian territory, WHO serves as a technical adviser to the Palestinian Ministry of Health while coordinating international health support, emergency response systems, and humanitarian logistics.
As the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to place immense pressure on medical systems and aid delivery networks, WHO says strong logistics coordination remains essential for ensuring timely access to life-saving assistance.
The selected UN Volunteer will work under the supervision of the OSL Lead for the occupied Palestinian territory in Cairo while collaborating closely with WHO supply and logistics teams in Egypt.
Core responsibilities include:
The role requires maintaining efficient supply chain systems to ensure critical medical materials reach affected populations without delays.
The volunteer will also coordinate with multiple humanitarian partners involved in Gaza relief operations, including:
Responsibilities include supporting truck manifesting, QR coding systems, border notifications, and transportation arrangements linked to cross-border humanitarian deliveries.
Additional duties involve procurement coordination and operational administration, including:
WHO emphasized that the role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple operational tasks simultaneously under pressure.
WHO is seeking candidates with at least three years of relevant professional experience in areas such as:
Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in fields such as:
Advanced degrees or professional certifications in logistics, transportation, procurement systems, or supply chain operations are considered an advantage.
Candidates must demonstrate fluency in:
WHO notes that prior work with:
is highly desirable.
Experience using procurement systems such as ERP or GSM platforms, as well as familiarity with customs and import/export procedures, will also strengthen applications.
The organization is looking for professionals who can work effectively in fast-changing emergency environments.
Desired competencies include:
Because the role involves emergency operations linked to humanitarian aid corridors, candidates must be able to function in high-pressure operational contexts while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
The assignment is classified as an International UN Volunteer Specialist position and includes a comprehensive support package.
Benefits include:
While the assignment is based in Egypt, volunteers are responsible for arranging their own housing and daily living arrangements using the provided allowance.
WHO and UNV describe Cairo as a family duty station offering relatively stable living conditions, access to healthcare, educational facilities, transportation, shopping centers, and cultural amenities.
Egypt’s geographic position connecting Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia also makes it a major regional center for diplomacy, humanitarian operations, and international development work.
The position is open only to candidates who are nationals of countries other than Egypt, in line with international UN Volunteer eligibility requirements.
As humanitarian needs across the region continue to evolve, WHO says strengthening logistics coordination and emergency supply systems remains critical for supporting public health operations and delivering essential medical assistance to vulnerable populations.
