Street Child is currently seeking a qualified and passionate professional to fill the role of Education Specialist in Lagos, Nigeria. Street Child is an internationally recognized humanitarian organization dedicated to protecting vulnerable children and improving access to education in some of the world’s most underserved communities. Since expanding its operations to Nigeria in 2016, the organization has played a vital role in supporting children affected by crisis, particularly in the North-East, through innovative and sustainable education and child protection interventions.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced education professional to lead high-impact teaching and learning initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes and school retention, especially among vulnerable and out-of-school children.

Role Overview

The Education Specialist will be responsible for leading the design, implementation, and quality assurance of instructional programs focused on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN). The role emphasizes accelerated learning approaches, helping children catch up academically while ensuring inclusive and safe learning environments.

Working closely with Learning Advisors, teachers, and government stakeholders such as the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, the successful candidate will strengthen teacher capacity through structured training, coaching, and mentoring. The goal is to improve classroom practices, address learning gaps, and ensure that all children—regardless of background—can enroll, stay in school, and succeed.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement accelerated learning and targeted instruction programs
Develop training materials, teacher guides, and lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
Lead teacher training, coaching sessions, and classroom support activities
Conduct student assessments using tools such as EGRA and EGMA
Promote inclusive education practices addressing gender, disability, and language barriers
Support data-driven decision-making through collaboration with monitoring and evaluation teams
Facilitate Communities of Practice (CoPs) for continuous teacher development
Engage with stakeholders including schools, communities, and government bodies
Ensure safeguarding and child protection standards are upheld across all interventions

Qualifications & Experience

Candidates must possess a degree in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field, with a Master’s degree strongly preferred. Applicants should have proven experience in teacher development, curriculum implementation, and improving learning outcomes, particularly in low-resource or diverse environments.

Strong knowledge of accelerated learning, inclusive education, and Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodologies is essential. Experience working with government education systems, especially within Lagos State, and familiarity with donor-funded or results-based programs will be an added advantage.
