Overview
Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) is seeking a remote Artist Protection Consultant to support its programs safeguarding artists and cultural workers under threat due to their creative expression. This is an independent contractor role focusing on case management, emergency grant coordination, research, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide case management support for artists under threat, ensuring timely and sensitive assistance.
- Facilitate referrals to external resources and coordinate the emergency grant application process.
- Maintain detailed case records and support internal review and decision-making processes.
- Conduct research on human rights, artistic freedom, and country-specific risks.
- Draft advocacy materials and monitor global trends affecting artistic freedom.
- Coordinate grant disbursements and conduct compliance checks.
- Serve as a liaison between artists and external partners, identifying new resources and opportunities.
- Track case progress, document lessons learned, and assist in preparing narrative reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in social justice, human rights, law, political science, or related fields.
- Minimum of five years’ professional experience in grantmaking, case management, legal or social work, or advocacy related to human rights or arts protection.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and case management databases.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; proficiency in an additional language (preferably Arabic or Farsi) is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving abilities.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive information securely and with discretion.
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Passion for human rights, artistic freedom, and social justice causes.
- Preferred: Experience working with artists, cultural workers, activists, or human rights defenders; familiarity with nonprofit or international NGO environments; trauma-informed or survivor-centered work experience; knowledge of country-specific risk contexts and human rights research.
Benefits
- Monthly retainer: $5,000 – $6,000 (based on experience).
