The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is inviting applications for the position of Research and Visits Officer based at the Australian Consulate-General in Bengaluru, India. The department works to:

• Support Australians travelling or living overseas.
• Provide foreign policy and trade advice to the Australian Government.
DFAT also collaborates with other Australian Government agencies to advance Australia’s regional and global interests.
The Research and Visits Officer will support the Australian Consulate-General in Bengaluru by monitoring political and economic developments across the region while strengthening Australia’s engagement with Indian state governments and key stakeholders.
Working under general direction, the officer will contribute to diplomatic reporting, official visit coordination, and stakeholder engagement activities that support Australia’s bilateral relationship with India.
The position also includes thematic responsibilities aligned with the Consulate’s strategic priorities across its accredited states and engagement with major business organisations.
The successful candidate will undertake a variety of research, coordination, and stakeholder engagement responsibilities, including:
• Monitoring local political, economic, and policy developments.
• Preparing reports and analytical briefings to inform Australia’s diplomatic engagement.
• Supporting Australia’s relationships with Indian state governments.
• Identifying relevant stakeholders for official visits and engagements.
• Coordinating meetings and official schedules.
• Preparing briefing materials for senior officials.
• Managing follow-up activities after official meetings and visits.
• Supporting diplomatic engagement across the Consulate’s accredited states, currently:
• Karnataka
• Telangana
• Madhya Pradesh
• Chhattisgarh
• Assisting with engagement involving major Indian business groups and industry stakeholders.
The successful applicant will be appointed under the following conditions:
• Full-time, non-ongoing employment.
• Initial contract period of two years.
• Possibility of contract extension based on organisational requirements.
• Three-month probation period.
• Successful completion of medical examination and background verification.
• Expected commencement within one month of receiving the employment offer.
