Overview
Conservation X Labs is seeking a Program Associate to support the rodenticide alternatives project within their new coexistence program. This role is a one-year term with potential for extension, focused on developing humane and sustainable alternatives to traditional rodenticides.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop institutional partnerships for animal testing that align with animal welfare standards.
- Identify and liaise with laboratory partners for animal testing components of the Rodenticide Alternatives Prize (RAP).
- Collaborate with experts in fertility control, humane rodenticides, gene drives, and related fields to determine technical testing options.
- Explore partnerships with rat rescues and animal welfare organizations to minimize euthanasia.
- Cultivate private-sector and donor relationships, including outreach to relevant corporate partners.
- Craft tailored pitches for diverse audiences to support program objectives.
- Serve as CXL’s technical lead on sub-areas related to humane lethal control and other relevant topics.
- Assist in planning and executing the Rodenticide Alternatives Big Think—an exclusive stakeholder engagement event—including logistics, invitations, pre-reads, and agenda development.
- Contribute to the design, funding, and launch of the RAP.
- Support the implementation of the program once it is operational.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in sciences, economics, animal welfare policy, or related fields.
- Demonstrated interest in ethics, conservation, or animal welfare.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills—writing, editing, and presentation.
- Curiosity and ability to quickly understand technical fields.
- Self-motivated, adaptable, collaborative, and problem-solving mindset.
- Master’s degree in relevant fields (Preferred).
- Experience with animal testing and welfare considerations (Preferred).
- Knowledge of international regulations related to animal research (Preferred).
- Creativity in establishing institutional arrangements (Preferred).
- Logistics management experience (Preferred).
- Ability to interpret scientific literature (Preferred).
- Cross-sector experience, including corporate engagement (Preferred).
Benefits
- Salary: $64,000 – $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience.

- Requires presence in Washington, D.C. office at least three days per week.
