Director, Enterprise AI & Machine Learning Engineering @Instacart

Overview

Instacart’s Enterprise AI team is building the next generation of intelligent solutions for retailers. They are seeking a Director of Enterprise AI Engineering and Machine Learning to lead the development of AI products that assist retailers in resolving complex business challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering and machine learning strategy for AI solutions tailored to Instacart’s retail partners.
• Build, mentor, and inspire high-performing engineering and science teams.
• Collaborate with retailers and stakeholders to translate complex business problems into impactful AI products.
• Guide the development of systems that integrate advanced machine learning, data, and software engineering.
• Establish direction in a zero-to-one product space while adapting to changing customer and business requirements.
• Communicate progress and risks to senior stakeholders while building alignment across teams.

Requirements

• Experience building and deploying agentic AI or machine learning products in production environments.
• Leadership experience in engineering or machine learning teams through product development and delivery.
• Ability to define requirements and deliver solutions in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of machine learning, software engineering principles, and scaling AI applications.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and manage ambiguity in a fast-changing environment.

Benefits

Instacart offers highly competitive compensation and benefits. For Canadian candidates, the base pay range is $313,000 — $330,500 CAD. The role is also eligible for a new hire equity grant and annual refresh grants.

Location

This is a remote position available only to candidates located in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia.
