Job Overview
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) seeks a dedicated Stakeholder Relations Manager to lead strategic relationships with international environmental NGOs.
This role is pivotal in aligning organizational goals with global sustainability, climate action, biodiversity, and environmental justice initiatives.
The successful candidate will build trust, manage risks, and foster collaborations with both FSC members and non-member NGOs worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
Stakeholder Strategy, Planning & Engagement
- Develop and implement engagement strategies targeting prioritized international NGOs in environmental sectors such as bioeconomy, climate, conservation, and justice.
- Map, prioritize, and maintain ongoing relationships with key NGO stakeholders.
- Serve as primary relationship lead, ensuring transparent and constructive dialogue aligned with organizational goals.
Relationship Management & Partnerships
- Cultivate long-term, trust-based relationships with NGO leaders, policy teams, and campaigners.
- Identify collaboration opportunities, joint initiatives, and thought leadership projects.
- Manage sensitive relationships and reputational risks with diplomacy and sound judgment.
Policy, Advocacy & Insight
- Monitor and analyze NGO campaigns, positions, and policy priorities related to global environmental issues.
- Provide strategic advice and briefings to senior leadership on NGO perspectives and emerging risks.
- Support FSC’s participation in environmental policy debates and multistakeholder forums.
- Identify opportunities for policy influence in specific countries to support FSC solutions.
International Coordination
- Collaborate with Forest Stewardship Council teams across engagement, policy, markets, and the network to align messaging and actions.
- Ensure internal teams are informed of NGO relationships, sensitivities, and engagement approaches.
- Contribute to crisis response planning related to NGO campaigns.
- Track engagement outcomes, risks, and opportunities using clear metrics and reporting frameworks.
Candidate Profile
Skills & Competencies
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills in complex, values-driven environments.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging NGO leaders and internal stakeholders credibly.
- Sound judgment, political awareness, and ability to navigate sensitive issues.
- Strategic thinking with strong organizational skills.
- Cross-cultural collaboration experience.
Knowledge & Experience
- Proven experience working with or engaging international environmental NGOs.
- In-depth understanding of global environmental policy frameworks.
- Background in stakeholder relations, public affairs, sustainability, or NGO engagement.
- International experience across diverse regions and cultures.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in environmental studies, international relations, public policy, or related fields.
- Postgraduate qualification or professional certification preferred.
