    The Secretariat of IRENA’s Country Engagement and Partnerships (CEP) Division supports energy transition efforts through collaboration with stakeholders, focusing on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to accelerate renewable energy deployment and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

    Job Summary

    IRENA seeks a qualified expert from the Pacific region to serve as the Pacific Focal Point, supporting regional and national activities under the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative.

    The role involves facilitating renewable energy projects, engaging stakeholders, and fostering regional cooperation to advance energy transition in Pacific SIDS.

    Key Responsibilities

    Coordination and Implementation

    • Support the execution of the SIDS Lighthouses Initiative’s twelve priority areas and 2026-2027 Work Programme.
    • Contribute to the Electrification Workplan, including developing smart electrification strategies and innovative business models.

    • Lead the pilot project documentation for Green Shore Power to Ships.
    • Support regional pooled procurement feasibility studies and engagement with stakeholders such as SPC and Pacific SIDS.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Knowledge Sharing

    • Facilitate interactions with partners, country focal points, and regional events.
    • Support research, data collection, and publication development.
    • Maintain and update knowledge platforms, including websites, publications, and digital content.
    • Assist in preparing progress reports and participating in high-level meetings, including IRENA Assembly and COP events.

    Technical Assistance and Capacity Building

    • Provide technical advice to Pacific SIDS.
    • Support capacity-building activities and regional participation.
    • Monitor energy transition initiatives and develop related reports.

    Travel and Reporting

    • Conduct missions as needed, approximately five days per mission.
    • Submit bi-weekly and monthly progress reports.
    • Attend weekly team meetings and maintain ongoing communication with supervisors.

    Candidate Requirements

    • Master’s degree in energy systems, renewable energy, energy economics, or sustainable energy management.
    • Minimum of 9 years’ experience in renewable energy projects, electrification, and energy policy in the Pacific region.
    • Expertise in renewable energy technologies, policy development, and regional energy planning.

    • Established networks with Pacific SIDS, regional organizations, utilities, and development partners.
    • Proficiency in English, with excellent report-writing skills.
    • Proven track record of delivering quality results.
    • Ability to work collaboratively across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
