Overview
The Malaria Consortium is seeking a Field Assistant (LGA) to support the implementation of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) activities at the Local Government Area level, health facility, and community levels in Sokoto State, Nigeria. This role is crucial for delivering evidence-based health interventions and strengthening health systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of SMC activities at the LGA level, including planning, route planning, commodity distribution, supervision, community mobilization, monitoring, and reporting.
- Ensure timely delivery of SMC commodities and monitor stock levels to prevent stockouts.
- Track program targets, review activity reports for accuracy, and ensure adherence to approved protocols.
- Support training activities for supervisors, health facility workers, community health workers, and community mobilizers.
- Maintain strong working relationships with public health officers and partners, conduct home visits, and support LGA ownership of program activities.
- Review distributors’ tally sheets, correct data, and enter data into management systems.
- Assist the Monitoring and Evaluation team in resolving data quality issues and ensuring accurate reporting.
- Submit regular activity reports to keep the Program Officer and State Project Manager informed.
- Ensure planning and coordination meetings are conducted at LGA and community levels.
- Attend data validation meetings and support coordination with local stakeholders and partners.
- Support the planning of stock levels and monitor commodity consumption.
- Ensure health facilities conduct physical inventory of SMC commodities after each cycle.
- Assist in developing action plans to achieve treatment targets.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the line manager.
Requirements
- Diploma-level qualification in clinical sciences, nursing, social sciences, public health, or a related discipline.
- At least two years of field experience in a relevant area.
- Experience in drug or commodity supply management, monitoring and evaluation, and logistics.
- Fluency in English and Hausa or other local languages.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with local government staff, health facility workers, and community leaders.
- Experience in supportive supervision and data use.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments.
- Must be a Nigerian citizen with the legal right to work in Nigeria.
- Desirable: Additional experience in logistics, training, and capacity building. Experience supporting field teams and working at the LGA level.
