    ForAfrika is seeking a seasoned Country Director to lead its South Africa operations. This role reports to the CEO of the Humanitarian and Development Division and is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Country Director will provide strategic leadership, drive programme delivery, revenue growth, and ensure operational excellence across the country office.

    Role Summary

    The Country Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of ForAfrika’s South Africa operations, including:

    • Programme delivery and monitoring
    • Revenue generation and strategic partnerships
    • Financial management and compliance
    • Emergency response coordination
    • Leadership and capacity building for staff

    The role requires a visionary leader capable of expanding ForAfrika’s footprint, enhancing operational efficiency, and driving high-impact interventions that improve community outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership, Accountability & Growth Strategy

    • Foster a culture of accountability, mentorship, and performance excellence using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)
    • Cascade ForAfrika’s core values—Deep Love for Africa, Initiative, Dependability, Discipline, and Compassion—through all levels of the country office
    • Develop and implement a multi-year strategic revenue plan aligned with organisational goals
    • Provide mentorship and performance management to direct reports, ensuring clear objectives, measurable outcomes, and continuous professional development
    • Facilitate collaboration and alignment across teams, divisions, and offices

    Revenue Generation

    • Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with government representatives, institutional donors, and local and international partners
    • Explore innovative funding models and new business opportunities
    • Support business development through participation in conferences, meetings, and sector forums
    • Drive strategic growth initiatives to expand ForAfrika’s influence and operational reach

    Programme Delivery

    • Oversee programme management, ensuring alignment with ForAfrika’s Theory of Change and donor standards
    • Establish a Programme Management Team (PMT) to coordinate all country programmes
    • Conduct field visits to verify programme implementation and engage directly with staff, partners, and beneficiaries
    • Enhance operational support systems across IT, Finance, HR, Operations, and Procurement to promote transparency and accountability

    Financial Management & Accountability

    • Oversee budgets, expenditure, and financial reporting
    • Ensure cost-effective resource utilisation and compliance with organisational and donor regulations
    • Approve purchases and monitor financial performance against objectives

    Emergency Response Leadership

    • Lead country-level emergency response planning and implementation
    • Coordinate WASH services, emergency shelter, and non-food items
    • Represent ForAfrika in national and international humanitarian forums
    • Maintain preparedness for swift response to humanitarian crises

    Design, Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (DMEAL)

    • Work with DMEAL teams to implement rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems
    • Ensure standardised reporting, documentation, and feedback mechanisms are embedded in programmes
    • Conduct site visits to assess programme quality, verify data, and provide hands-on M&E support

    Candidate Profile

    Ideal candidates are strategic, innovative, and experienced leaders with:

    • 15+ years of senior management experience in humanitarian or development sectors
    • Strong networks with government, donors, and sector partners
    • Demonstrated success in business development and revenue generation
    • Experience managing complex programmes and multi-disciplinary teams
    • Deep understanding of development programming, emergency response, and sectors such as WASH, health, education, and livelihoods
    • Familiarity with regional socio-political and cultural dynamics
    • Strong financial oversight, budgeting, and compliance expertise
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
