Overview
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is offering a consultancy opportunity for a Gender Specialist to support its GEF ISLANDS Programme Gender Equality Action Plan, with potential remote work flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing the effectiveness of the current Gender Equality Action Plan (established in 2022).
- Updating the plan based on new regional gender analysis and implementation progress.
- Supporting gender focal points across regional projects.
- Ensuring alignment with UNEP and GEF gender policies.
- Delivering training sessions on gender-responsive environmental programming.
- Advising on communication materials, campaigns, and reports to ensure gender sensitivity.
- Developing gender-related indicators for monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Contributing to global webinars, knowledge platforms, and stakeholder engagement.
- Producing quarterly analytical reports on gender mainstreaming progress.
Requirements
- An advanced degree in gender studies, environmental management, or social sciences.
- At least 5 years of experience in gender mainstreaming in environmental or development projects.
- Strong knowledge of gender analysis methodologies.
- Experience with project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting systems.
- Ability to design and deliver training or capacity-building workshops.
- Excellent analytical and written communication skills.
- Experience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) contexts is advantageous.
- Familiarity with GEF and UNEP gender frameworks is a plus.
