Overview

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is offering a consultancy opportunity for a Gender Specialist to support its GEF ISLANDS Programme Gender Equality Action Plan, with potential remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

Reviewing the effectiveness of the current Gender Equality Action Plan (established in 2022).
Updating the plan based on new regional gender analysis and implementation progress.
Supporting gender focal points across regional projects.
Ensuring alignment with UNEP and GEF gender policies.
Delivering training sessions on gender-responsive environmental programming.
Advising on communication materials, campaigns, and reports to ensure gender sensitivity.
Developing gender-related indicators for monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
Contributing to global webinars, knowledge platforms, and stakeholder engagement.
Producing quarterly analytical reports on gender mainstreaming progress.

Requirements

An advanced degree in gender studies, environmental management, or social sciences.
At least 5 years of experience in gender mainstreaming in environmental or development projects.
Strong knowledge of gender analysis methodologies.
Experience with project monitoring, evaluation, and reporting systems.
Ability to design and deliver training or capacity-building workshops.
Excellent analytical and written communication skills.
Experience in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) contexts is advantageous.
Familiarity with GEF and UNEP gender frameworks is a plus.
