Overview
Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) Europe is seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join its Board of Directors. This voluntary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable healthcare initiatives across Europe and influence the future of environmentally responsible healthcare practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and ensure alignment with HCWH Europe’s mission, vision, and values.
- Support the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic long-term goals and oversee the delivery of the annual Operational Plan.
- Review and approve the annual budget, financial statements, and audit reports, and present them at the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Participate in fundraising efforts, assist in recruiting new Board members, and represent HCWH Europe externally.
- Attend quarterly Board meetings virtually, with one in-person meeting annually, and contribute to sub-committees.
- Ensure compliance with Belgian law governing non-profit organizations, manage risks, and uphold legal responsibilities.
Requirements
Ideal candidates will demonstrate:
- Significant leadership experience in healthcare, business, government, philanthropy, or non-profit sectors.
- A strong commitment to healthcare beneficiaries and sustainability.
- Diplomatic skills and the ability to build consensus among diverse groups.
- Integrity, credibility, and a passion for HCWH Europe’s mission.
Skills & Expertise Areas:
- Experience with healthcare sustainability initiatives, engagement with HCWH Europe or GGHH networks, or developing sustainability strategies.
- Clinical experience with a passion for involving clinicians in environmental health initiatives.
- Experience in securing private sector funding or philanthropic donations, established networks within the European philanthropic community, or skills in developing funding strategies.
Benefits
This is a voluntary role. However, all travel and subsistence expenses for in-person meetings and events will be covered by HCWH Europe. Board members will be indemnified under HCWH Europe’s Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance policy.
