Overview
The WASH Officer will support the planning, supervision, and quality delivery of emergency WASH interventions in Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of emergency water, sanitation, and hygiene activities in line with approved workplans and technical standards.
- Oversee day-to-day field activities including water quality testing, chlorination, hygiene promotion, active case finding, and community mobilization.
- Coordinate water point rehabilitation, temporary water supply, and basic sanitation support in collaboration with technical teams and contractors.
- Ensure proper documentation of technical and public health actions, hygiene promotion, and WASH NFI distribution.
- Conduct household and community sensitization, referrals, and WASH messaging for high-risk and vulnerable populations.
- Track field-level progress and identify bottlenecks, providing practical recommendations for corrective action.
- Support technical assessments, supervision checklists, bill verification, and activity reporting.
- Maintain effective coordination with line ministries, health actors, community leaders, and other WASH partners at the LGA level.
- Supervise community-based workers, monitors, and field teams to ensure quality and timely delivery of activities.
- Provide guidance and on-the-job support to staff to strengthen field-level WASH operations.
Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Water Resources, Environmental Health, Public Health, WASH, or related technical field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian WASH programming.
- Experience in water quality monitoring, hygiene promotion, sanitation follow-up, or small-scale emergency water systems.
- Strong supervision, report writing, coordination, and basic data management skills.
- Proficiency in English and relevant local languages.
- Good IT, organizational, and communication skills; ability to work under pressure while maintaining confidentiality.
