The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency is currently advancing a major regional initiative aimed at transforming access to clean cooking solutions across West Africa. As part of this effort, the organization has launched a recruitment drive under the Regional Clean Cooking Action in West Africa ReCCAWA Project. This is an ambitious programme designed to accelerate the adoption of clean, efficient, and affordable cooking technologies across ECOWAS Member States.

This initiative reflects the region’s growing commitment to sustainable energy development and improved livelihoods. Over the past decade, the Economic Community of West African States region has made notable progress in strengthening bioenergy policies and promoting the sustainable use of biomass resources. In particular, this progress is evident in the cooking sector. Efforts have included setting regional targets for clean cooking access. Furthermore, they have encouraged the responsible use of firewood and charcoal through coordinated policy frameworks and collaborative action plans.

Regional cooperation has played a central role in these achievements, with joint initiatives such as the West African Clean Cooking Alliance contributing to improved access to cleaner cooking solutions. Despite these gains, a significant portion of the population still relies on traditional biomass for cooking. This situation underscores the need for accelerated action, increased investment, and scalable solutions.

In response to this challenge, the ReCCAWA programme has been developed as a four year intervention with a total budget of 15 million euros. The programme is designed to support both the supply and demand sides of the clean cooking market. It does so by catalyzing market growth, strengthening value chains, promoting enabling policies, and expanding access to modern cooking technologies across the region.

The programme is funded by the European Union and implemented through a partnership involving the ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. Also, it includes the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.

To support the effective implementation of this initiative, ECREEE is seeking to strengthen its Project Implementation Unit by engaging a qualified individual consultant for the role of Knowledge Management Expert. This position is intended for professionals with strong expertise in knowledge management, documentation, and information systems who are capable of supporting learning, evidence generation, and knowledge sharing within the programme. The selected expert will play a critical role in capturing insights and promoting best practices. In addition, they will enhance the overall impact and visibility of the project across the region.

Interested candidates are required to submit a detailed curriculum vitae along with a cover letter clearly indicating the position applied for. Applications must be submitted via email to kexpert at ecreee dot org, with the job title clearly stated in the subject line. The deadline for submission is 30 April 2026 at 23 59 Cape Verde time.

This opportunity is particularly suited for professionals who are passionate about sustainable development, regional collaboration, and driving impactful change within the energy sector in West Africa.
