    Job Summary

    The AfricaLics network is seeking up to four qualified consultants to assist in updating and developing the online knowledge base focusing on STI measurement in Africa.

    The role involves compiling annotated resources, categorizing materials, verifying links, and providing recommendations to enhance the usability of the knowledge platform.

    Successful candidates will work closely with RCA leads, ensuring the creation of high-quality, context-relevant materials to support research and teaching in innovation studies across Africa.

    Background

    Established in 2012, AfricaLics aims to promote high-quality research on innovation and development in Africa.

    The network explores how innovation processes influence social and economic progress at multiple levels, from firm to continental.

    It supports the development of teaching materials and maintains an online knowledge base as a resource for researchers, educators, and policymakers.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop online resources related to STI measurement in Africa RCA, including annotated bibliographies and summaries.
    • Organize and categorize resources aligned with AfricaLics priorities, based on RCA State-of-the-Art reports.
    • Identify and upload relevant African case studies, policy reports, and empirical research.

    • Verify and update resource links to ensure accessibility, prioritizing open-access materials.
    • Provide recommendations to improve the structure, navigation, and usability of the AfricaLics Knowledge Base.
    • Collaborate with RCA leads to validate content relevance.
    • Prepare brief reports on activities, gaps, and future update recommendations.

    Minimum Deliverables

    • Inception report (August 2026)
    • Final activity report (October 2026)
    • Annotated bibliography of core materials
    • List of additional useful resources (databases, reports, events)

    Duration and Quality Assurance

    • Duration: 15 days, between July 2026 and December 2026
    • Mode: Part-time, flexible engagement
    • Supervision: Managed by ACTS under AfricaLics RCS project
    • Review: Deliverables reviewed by AfricaLics RCS team and stakeholders

    Qualifications and Competencies

    • PhD in Innovation Studies or related field
    • 1-3 years research experience in innovation-relevant areas (PhD students with relevant knowledge considered)
    • AfricaLics alumni prioritized

    • Strong skills in writing teaching materials and working on context-specific topics
    • Adaptability and openness to feedback
    • Affiliated with an academic or research institution, preferably in Africa

    Terms of Engagement and Payment

    • Fee: USD 100/day for up to 15 days
    • Payment: Upon successful completion of tasks and approval of deliverables
    • Contract: Not fully funded; volunteer-based with a modest stipend
    • Tax: Withholding tax applicable, deducted at source
