About Global Designing Cities Initiative

The Global Designing Cities Initiative (GDCI), launched in 2014, aims to transform streets worldwide. GDCI inspires leaders, informs practitioners, and invites communities to reimagine streets as places for people, focusing on safety, health, accessibility, and equity.

The team comprises designers, planners, and urban strategists dedicated to creating cities that prioritize people.

Their work, guided by the Global Street Design Guide, influences policies, builds local capacity, and scales impactful urban transformations.

Role Overview

GDCI seeks a highly organized and design-savvy Capacity Building Associate to support its global efforts in transforming streets through workshops, trainings, and learning programs.

The role reports to the Capacity Building Senior Manager and is integral to the Design and Research team.

The successful candidate will assist in coordinating capacity-building strategies, developing content, and supporting the delivery of engaging learning experiences tailored for global audiences.

Key Responsibilities

Coordination of Capacity-Building Strategy

• Assist in refining GDCI’s capacity-building approach
• Organize and maintain capacity-building resources (presentations, tools, materials)

• Standardize and implement capacity-building structures and protocols across programs
• Collaborate with Communications to streamline content, graphics, and multimedia assets
• Communicate regularly with program teams to understand needs and priorities

Content Development and Delivery Support

• Support development of new materials and curriculum design
• Assist in internal and external knowledge-sharing initiatives (webinars, workshops, online courses)
• Help prepare and deliver capacity-building sessions for city teams, communities, and audiences

• Stay informed on trends, technologies, AI tools, and storytelling strategies
• Adapt content for diverse audiences, geographies, and platforms
• Coordinate translation efforts to ensure accessibility

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Passionate about street design, sustainable mobility, and public spaces
• Strong visual and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and coordination abilities

• Comfortable working across teams, programs, and cultural contexts
• Ability to work globally with sensitivity to diverse needs
• Familiarity with instructional design and online education is a plus
