Operating across multiple African countries via a federation model, YA equips marginalized young people with skills, values, and confidence to build sustainable livelihoods.

Young Africa International provides strategic leadership, supporting a federation of national organizations with vocational training centers and enterprise programs.

    Job Summary

Young Africa is seeking an experienced, values-aligned facilitator to lead the co-creation of its Strategic Plan 2027–2030 through a dynamic 10-week virtual sprint.

The facilitator will work closely with the YA Managing Board, Federation Directors, YA International team, and most importantly, young people themselves, ensuring their voices shape the strategy from inception to finalization.

This role demands a creative, energetic leader skilled in multi-stakeholder facilitation, youth consultation, and strategy development within a tight timeline.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Design and deliver a detailed facilitation plan, including weekly activities, youth consultation methods, and retreat agendas.
    • Synthesize inputs from the Managing Board, Federation Directors, YA team, and youth voices into actionable insights.
    • Lead virtual strategy sessions, ensuring active participation and consensus among diverse stakeholders.

    • Facilitate youth consultation rounds to validate the strategy, ensuring youth voices are central.
    • Draft and finalize the YA Strategic Plan 2027–2030, including reports, presentations, and a compelling, publication-ready document.
    • Support stakeholder validation sessions and prepare communication strategies for strategy launch and embedding.

    Required Qualifications and Skills

    Experience & Expertise

    • Proven track record facilitating international, multi-stakeholder strategic planning processes for NGOs or development organizations.
    • Skilled in designing accessible, creative youth consultation methods (focus groups, peer dialogue, visual or voice tools).

    • Familiarity with the African development context, especially youth, vocational education, or social entrepreneurship sectors.
    • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex inputs into clear strategic documents.

    Personal Qualities

    • Warmth, energy, and ability to foster a psychologically safe, playful, and inclusive space.
    • Strong alignment with YA’s values: dignity, equity, faith, and African youth development.
    • Excellent listening skills and ability to integrate diverse perspectives, including youth voices.

    • Capacity to work at pace, maintaining flexibility and calmness under a tight schedule.
    • Multilingual skills (English required; Portuguese a strong asset).
    • Sense of humor and genuine love for facilitation.

    Application Process

Interested facilitators or facilitation teams should submit a comprehensive proposal including:

    • A cover letter (max. 2 pages) outlining approach, connection to YA’s mission, and facilitation style.
    • A technical proposal (max. 3 pages) detailing sprint design, methodology, youth engagement approach, and team composition.

    • A financial proposal (1 page) with professional fees.
    • A CV or capability statement (max. 3 pages per team member).
    • Two references from similar facilitation assignments, including youth engagement work.
