    This opportunity is suited to individuals who are passionate about environmental justice, climate action, community development, and South Africa’s Just Energy Transition (JET).

    Based in Cape Town with regular travel to Mpumalanga and Limpopo, the successful candidate will support the Project Manager in coordinating the implementation of the ECO-JET project while strengthening community participation in climate and energy decision-making.

    The role places particular emphasis on empowering women and young people through collaboration with community-based and faith-based organisations.

    About the Role

    The Project Coordinator will play a central role in ensuring the successful implementation of the ECO-JET programme and other assigned projects.

    The position combines project management, stakeholder coordination, climate policy monitoring, advocacy support, community engagement, and reporting.

    Working closely with partners, community organisations, and stakeholders, the coordinator will ensure activities remain on schedule while supporting meaningful public participation in climate and energy policy discussions.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for:

    • Coordinating project implementation activities, timelines, and work plans.
    • Supporting the rollout of Solar Hub pilot projects alongside project partners and local communities.
    • Monitoring developments relating to South Africa’s Just Energy Transition and climate policies.

    • Translating complex climate and energy policy into accessible learning materials and training resources.
    • Coordinating stakeholder engagement meetings, advocacy campaigns, and policy submissions.
    • Supporting monitoring, evaluation, learning, and donor reporting processes.

    • Maintaining accurate project documentation and records.
    • Strengthening collaboration with community-based organisations, faith-based organisations, and project partners.

    • Producing case studies, communication materials, and documenting lessons learned.
    • Promoting inclusive participation by women and youth in climate and energy decision-making.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants should possess:

    • A Degree in Environmental Policy, Political Science, Development Studies, or a related discipline.
    • A valid South African driver’s licence.

    Required Experience

    Suitable applicants should demonstrate:

    • At least five years of experience in climate policy, energy policy, advocacy, or community engagement.
    • Experience coordinating development or environmental projects.
    • Experience working with community-based organisations and grassroots initiatives.

    • Experience preparing policy research, analysis, and policy submissions.
    • Strong knowledge of South Africa’s climate and energy policy landscape.
    • The ability to simplify technical policy information for community audiences.
    • Experience working with faith-based organisations will be an added advantage.
