    Legal Practice Council Seeks Trainee Legal Officers in Gauteng – 6-Month Contract Opportunity

    The Legal Practice Council (LPC) invites qualified and recently admitted legal practitioners to apply for the position of Trainee Legal Officer based at the Gauteng Provincial Office in Pretoria.

    Job Title: Trainee Legal Officer
    Location: Gauteng (Pretoria)
    Closing Date: 06 July 2026
    Contract: 6-month contract (with potential extension)
    Salary: R15,000 all-inclusive per month

    This opportunity is ideal for newly admitted attorneys or advocates seeking practical experience in a regulatory environment within a 6-month contractual role, with the possibility of extension.

    Key Qualifications and Requirements

    • Matric/Grade 12 Certificate
    • Law Degree (NQF Level 8)
    • Admission as an Attorney or Advocate within the last six months
    • Knowledge of the Legal Practice Act, No. 28 of 2014, including relevant regulations, rules, and the Code of Conduct for Legal Practitioners

    Responsibilities

    Candidates will be placed within core operational departments of the LPC and may be expected to:

    • Assist in assessing compliance with legal regulations and standards
    • Administer applications, registrations, and related statutory processes
    • Review practitioner and firm records for non-compliance

    • Maintain regulatory databases and records
    • Support compliance processes for Fidelity Fund Certificates
    • Monitor examination processes and assess misconduct allegations

    • Gather, analyze, and evaluate evidence
    • Conduct investigations and prepare reports and recommendations
    • Participate in regulatory committees and assist in disciplinary proceedings

    • Conduct inspections and follow-up investigations
    • Provide guidance to legal practitioners and the public
    • Respond to enquiries, prepare reports, and facilitate communication with stakeholders
