Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering - CMEG @Databricks

Overview

As the Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering at Databricks, you will lead a team of Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) and work closely with strategic enterprise customers in the Communications, Media, Entertainment & Gaming (CMEG) sectors. The role focuses on supporting customers in migrating to the lakehouse architecture and implementing AI systems to derive business value from their data.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee regional performance targets including billable utilization, team growth, and hiring while championing delivery excellence.
• Partner with Account Executives, Engagement Managers, and Field Engineering leaders to deliver transformational Professional Services programs.
• Establish best practices for project oversight, risk management, and quality standards.
• Synthesize insights from team engagements to provide feedback to Engineering and Product management.
• Serve as a critical escalation point for customer situations, leveraging technical credibility to resolve issues.
• Mentor Forward Deployed Engineers through structured career pathways and technical coaching.

Requirements

• 4+ years of people leadership experience managing technical delivery teams.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience as a technical solutions architect or data/AI engineer.
• Experience in leading large-scale data platform migrations and AI programs in an enterprise setting.
• Strong understanding of technical project delivery and performance metrics.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, especially at the C-suite level.
• Familiarity with Databricks, Apache Spark™, and the modern data and AI ecosystem.
• Ability to travel to customer sites and offices approximately 20% of the time.
