Overview

The role involves managing the Semantic Layer team at Fivetran, focusing on team health, delivery, and growth. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the development of MetricFlow, ensuring quality execution and fostering a strong engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers building MetricFlow.
• Own delivery for the Semantic Layer team, including planning, prioritization, and execution.
• Set technical direction in partnership with senior and staff engineers.
• Steward MetricFlow as an open-source project, managing community interactions and contributions.
• Collaborate with engineering leaders to ensure deep integration with the broader dbt ecosystem.
• Drive engineering excellence in performance and reliability of metric queries.
• Foster a culture around design documentation, code reviews, and sustainable engineering practices.

Requirements

• Experience managing software engineering teams and shipping production systems.
• Strong engineering foundation with practical software development experience.
• Familiarity with SQL fundamentals and analytical query engines.
• Solid grasp of software design principles such as clean APIs and modularity.
• Excellent communication skills for explaining complex technical trade-offs.
• Experience in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.
