    Duration: Late April 2026 through November 2026
    Salary Level: $76,800 to $85,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
    Risk Level: Level 1 (Likely no contact with participants or sensitive data)

    Department Summary

    The Philanthropic Growth & Engagement (PG&E) department advances Mercy Corps’ strategic goals by raising flexible funds, enhancing profile, and expanding influence.

    Our team comprises diverse professionals including gift officers, fundraisers, web developers, marketers, media strategists, and storytellers, all passionate about our mission and creating impact.

    Position Overview

    The Deputy Director leads communications, donor engagement, and strategic partnership support for individual, corporate, and foundation donors funding Mercy Corps’ global initiatives.

    Working closely with fundraisers and leadership, the role focuses on donor acquisition, cultivation, and stewardship through engaging events, high-profile opportunities, and tailored communication materials.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications & Events

    • Develop and implement comprehensive donor communications and engagement strategies, including mail, digital outreach, events, and donor travel.
    • Track and analyze engagement effectiveness to refine strategies.
    • Manage global conference coordination and donor trip planning from conception to follow-up.

    • Organize donor events and high-level meetings.
    • Create communication materials such as briefs, bios, invitations, presentations, and talking points.
    • Support emergency response communications as needed.

    Business Development & Relationship Management

    • Collaborate with the VP of Strategic Partnerships to manage and cultivate relationships with donors through bespoke materials and engagement opportunities.
    • Support top-tier strategic partnerships with proposal and report writing, pitch decks, and stewardship materials.

    • Prepare meeting briefs and presentation materials.
    • Contribute to additional projects as assigned.

    Organizational Learning & Accountability

    • Dedicate 5% of work time to organizational learning activities.
    • Support accountability to beneficiaries and uphold international standards in all initiatives.

    Supervisory & Reporting Structure

    • Reports to: Director of Communications, Partner Engagement
    • Collaborates with: VP of Strategic Partnerships, regional teams, donors, and board members
    • Supervisory Responsibility: None

    Required Qualifications & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field
    • 5-8 years’ experience in a nonprofit or fundraising environment
    • Exceptional writing skills and ability to translate complex info into compelling donor content
    • Strong project management skills, cross-team coordination, and event execution experience

    • Experience working with major donors, corporates, foundations, or boards
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint; experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
    • International field experience preferred
