Modikwa Platinum Mine is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the position of Business Area Leader – Process Plant (E Lower).

Reporting directly to the Business Leader, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across the processing operation while ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production within a platinum and chrome processing environment.

This is an opportunity for an experienced metallurgical or chemical engineering professional to lead multidisciplinary operational teams and drive operational excellence within one of South Africa’s mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

• Provide overall leadership and management of production, maintenance, metallurgy, engineering, utilities, and support services.
• Foster a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with site safety standards, risk management, and legal obligations.
• Manage the production process safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to meet planned targets.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Maintain and develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Drive continuous improvement and asset optimization initiatives.
• Ensure effective workforce planning, recruitment, succession planning, and talent management.

Technical and Operational Oversight

• Plan and implement asset optimization and technical initiatives.
• Lead and manage a team of supervisors, technical staff, and operational personnel.
• Monitor and analyze process performance, ensuring adherence to metallurgical and safety standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy at NQF Level 6.
• Minimum of 6 years post-graduation experience at mid-management level.
• Advanced knowledge of metallurgical processes and metal accounting.

• Proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Medically fit for the position (Red Ticket).
• Strong communication skills and ability to manage large teams.

Technical Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience in metallurgical processing, particularly in platinum and chrome environments.
• Proven track record in managing multidisciplinary teams and large workforce.
• Ability to drive safety, operational excellence, and technical improvements.
