    Seriti is seeking a highly skilled Senior Socio-Economic Officer (D1) to join the team at New Denmark Colliery in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

    The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the mine’s social license to operate through effective social performance strategies, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable socio-economic development initiatives.

    This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to responsible mining operations within a leading metals and mining company.

    Key Responsibilities

    Social Performance Governance and Standards

    • Implement, monitor, and communicate the Seriti Social Way.
    • Identify and manage social risks, Human Rights issues, and Voluntary Principles adherence.
    • Lead the Socio-Economic Assessment (SEAT) planning and execution.

    • Develop and oversee the Mine Social Performance Strategy aligned with the Life of Mine.
    • Prepare and review the Social Management Plan (SMP) annually.
    • Establish and maintain the mine social commitment register.

    • Incorporate neighbouring communities into Emergency Preparedness Plans.
    • Lead the development and execution of the mine’s social closure strategy.
    • Manage Social Incident procedures.

    Socio-Economic Benefit Delivery

    • Oversee the Social and Labour Plan (SLP) in compliance with DMRE regulations.
    • Draft, implement, and monitor the SLP, reporting progress accordingly.
    • Identify and implement Local Economic Development (LED) projects aligned with government priorities.

    • Report on project implementation and sustainability at Local Economic Development Forums.
    • Administer Corporate Social Investment (CSI) policies, monitor expenditure, and report on impact.

    Stakeholder Relations

    • Develop and implement Stakeholder Engagement Plans.
    • Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.

    • Establish Community Consultative Forums where absent, and ensure effectiveness of existing forums.
    • Represent Seriti Power at community and municipal forums and events.

    Requirements

    • Degree in Social Science or related studies, or National Diploma in Development Studies.
    • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in community development or socio-economic development roles.
    • Extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and socio-economic project management.

    • Knowledge of relevant legislation: MPRDA, MHSA, BBBEE Act, NEMA, and Mining Charter.
    • Strong communication, networking, and influencing skills.
    • Computer literacy (MS Office, Enablon, etc.).

    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Ability to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness.

    Preferred Qualifications and Experience

    • Postgraduate Degree in relevant field.
    • Experience in the mining industry.
    • Project Management qualification.

    • Management Development Program or equivalent.
    • In-depth knowledge of Seriti Coal policies and community development policies.
