Overview
The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is seeking an experienced Programme Officer – Persons with Disabilities (PWD) and Refugees to support its mission of advancing gender equity and equality in education across Africa. The role focuses on strengthening inclusive education programmes that empower African girls and young women, particularly those living with disabilities and those in refugee communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead social inclusion initiatives within FAWE programmes across 10 African countries (Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Senegal, Liberia, Ghana).
- Promote innovative strategies that integrate gender equity, transformative education, and social inclusion.
- Ensure strong quality assurance systems for programme implementation.
- Support partnerships and programme expansion initiatives.
- Conduct internal assessments to identify capacity-building needs related to social inclusion.
- Support FAWE National Chapters in strengthening inclusive education programming.
- Build alliances with organizations working with persons with disabilities and refugee communities.
- Strengthen partnerships with project partners, national chapters, and regional stakeholders.
- Advocate for increased civic space and education opportunities for refugee girls and girls with disabilities.
- Collaborate with FAWE advocacy and partnerships teams to amplify marginalized voices.
- Identify funding opportunities for social inclusion initiatives.
- Provide technical input in grant proposals and funding pitches.
- Participate in engagement and negotiations with development partners.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences such as Education, Gender and Development, Public Health, Political Science, Philosophy, Law, Project Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 3 years in the NGO sector.
- Experience managing multi-country partnerships and consortiums.
- Strong skills in report writing, programme documentation, and presentations.
- Knowledge of education and social inclusion issues.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is highly desirable.
