In 2018 alone, Action Against Hunger reached more than 21 million people worldwide, reaffirming its commitment to improving nutrition, health, and overall well-being.

As part of its ongoing mission, Action Against Hunger is currently recruiting a qualified and experienced individual for the position of Nutrition and Health Officer in Sokoto State, Nigeria. The role reports directly to the Deputy Programme Manager – Health and Nutrition and is expected to commence in August 2026.

The Nutrition and Health Officer will play a critical role in supporting the implementation and monitoring of health and nutrition programs at the local government area (LGA) level. Key responsibilities include maintaining and updating sectoral mapping tools such as the 5W/4W matrix, monitoring malnutrition screening data, and collecting disease surveillance reports from health facilities. The officer will also collaborate closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to ensure accurate data collection during assessments.

In addition, the role involves coordinating with nutrition and health assistants to maintain updated databases for community support groups and health facilities. The successful candidate will also ensure that all supported health facilities are adequately stocked with essential supplies and that services are delivered in line with national protocols. Monitoring proper documentation practices, supervising staff performance, and supporting referrals for high-risk cases are also core components of the role.

Administrative and coordination duties include preparing monthly action plans, organizing LGA-level coordination meetings, and contributing to financial, logistical, and human resource planning. The officer will also support government health workers in compiling reports such as DHIS2 and integrated disease surveillance data while providing analysis and recommendations based on field findings.

Furthermore, the role requires maintaining comprehensive records of trainings, supervision visits, and health worker databases. Regular supervision, coaching, and performance tracking of supervisees are essential, alongside ensuring adherence to organizational policies, including safeguarding and code of conduct standards.

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health, or a related field, along with a minimum of three years’ experience in primary healthcare programming. Strong report-writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are required.
