    The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has announced a new career opportunity for experienced digital communications professionals, opening applications for the position of Social Media Editor/Producer within its Communications Division.

    The successful candidate will join IFAD’s External Engagement, Communications Division, working under the guidance of the Web and Social Media Lead to strengthen the organization’s global digital presence and audience engagement across multiple platforms.

    The Social Media Editor/Producer will support strategic communications efforts by creating compelling multimedia content, managing editorial workflows, and helping amplify IFAD’s mission to improve the lives of rural communities around the world.

    This position is ideal for professionals with strong editorial judgment, creative storytelling abilities, and a deep understanding of digital engagement strategies across today’s leading social media platforms.

    Consultants appointed to the role will be expected to work from the Rome office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with occasional travel required when operational needs arise.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will play a central role in supporting IFAD’s global digital communications strategy. Responsibilities include:

    • Planning, developing, and implementing social media strategies across IFAD’s global channels.
    • Producing engaging content for X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, and other digital platforms.
    • Identifying compelling stories, development trends, and data-driven content opportunities.
    • Creating and editing short-form video content designed for social media audiences.
    • Supporting digital diplomacy initiatives and engagement with Member States, development partners, country offices, and private sector stakeholders.
    • Scheduling, proofreading, and quality-checking digital content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
    • Producing multimedia assets including graphics, photography, and video content.
    • Coordinating editorial planning with regional and multilingual social media teams.
    • Contributing content for newsletters, website articles, blogs, and other digital publications.
    • Monitoring social media performance using analytics tools and reporting on key engagement metrics.
    • Collaborating closely with communications colleagues to deliver integrated digital campaigns.

    Qualifications and Experience

    IFAD is looking for a communications professional with a strong combination of academic qualifications, editorial expertise, and practical digital media experience.

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • An advanced university degree in Communications, Journalism, Writing, or a related discipline.
    • A minimum of four years of professional experience in social media management and digital content production.
    • Excellent writing, editing, and copy-editing skills.
    • Proven ability to simplify technical or development-related information into engaging, audience-friendly content.
    • Experience using social media management platforms, scheduling tools, analytics software, and multimedia production applications.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
    • Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of other IFAD official languages will be considered an advantage.
