Overview
The Officer, CGPP Surveillance – Health will oversee surveillance activities and ensure the effective implementation of surveillance-related programs. The role requires close collaboration with local implementing partners and surveillance working groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Officer, CGPP Surveillance – Health, overseeing surveillance activities and ensuring the effective implementation of surveillance-related programs.
- Collaborate closely with local implementing partners and surveillance working groups.
- Manage and oversee surveillance activities and maintain associated databases.
- Support specialized surveillance systems while ensuring full implementation of the Surveillance Work Plan.
- Assist in coordinating Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response activities.
- Support outbreak investigations with LGA surveillance officers within the health emergencies program.
- Conduct real-time analysis of outbreak intelligence data from multiple sources, including non-health sectors, to support epidemic detection and forecasting.
- Perform public health intelligence activities through systematic information gathering to strengthen outbreak detection systems.
- Support the development and strengthening of surveillance teams by organizing training on field investigation, detection, data management, and rapid response to epidemics and health outbreaks.
- Contribute to the development of technical documents, tools, and indicators for integrated disease surveillance at subnational and community levels.
- Conduct regular field supervision visits to assess the implementation of surveillance activities, identify operational gaps, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support monitoring and evaluation visits in collaboration with the MEAL team, providing technical guidance and feedback.
- Work closely with national and local health authorities and collaborate with international health partners.
- Maintain regular coordination with the Ministry of Health and other partners to ensure timely implementation of surveillance activities.
- Support the technical review of surveillance reports and documentation related to disease outbreaks and health emergencies.
- Assist with the maintenance of updated line lists for Acute Flaccid Paralysis cases across LGAs.
- Support the preparation of timely reports, field notes, and success stories.
- Maintain communication with partner organizations involved in AFP surveillance.
- Undertake other surveillance-related responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Epidemiology, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field. A Master’s Degree in Public Health is an advantage.
- Strong technical knowledge in public health, epidemiology, infectious disease surveillance, outbreak investigation, and data management, including analysis and interpretation of infectious disease surveillance data.
- At least three years of relevant professional experience at the state level, particularly in surveillance of infectious diseases and vaccine-preventable diseases.
- Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Epi Info or similar software.
- Understanding of local communities and cultural contexts in operational states.
- Fluent communication in Hausa.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple activities and deadlines effectively.
- Willingness to travel and work in challenging environments, including remote rural areas.
- Ability to work effectively within multicultural and team-based settings.
