Elastic, the Search AI Company, is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team. This globally distributed team focuses on delivering a robust and feature-rich search experience, enhancing vector similarity search functionality within Elasticsearch.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to produce an industry-leading vector database offering.
• Contribute full time to Elasticsearch by building new search features and fixing bugs.
• Work with a globally distributed team to enhance vector search capabilities.
• Serve as an expert in vector similarity and support search relevance.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elastic is predominantly Java-based.

Requirements

• Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases.
• Strong skills in core Java, including data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Able to work autonomously and oversee projects from design to implementation.
• Comfortable with collaborative development and providing feedback on code.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, or PostgreSQL.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven record of using AI to aid development and optimize code.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams seamlessly.
