Overview

The role is for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team at Elastic, a company focused on delivering advanced search solutions powered by AI. The team is responsible for enhancing Elasticsearch's vector similarity search functionality and contributing to an enhanced search experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce industry-leading vector database offerings, ensuring speed and relevance in search.
• Build new search features and resolve bugs in Elasticsearch, while improving code understandability.
• Be an expert in vector similarity and collaborate with a globally distributed team.
• Engage with the community on issues and pull requests, sometimes triaging or directly addressing them.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Professional experience with vector similarity, vector databases, and relevant algorithms.
• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to autonomously manage projects from design to implementation.
• Experience with collaborative development, including remote collaboration.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven experience using AI for development and optimization.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and adapt to business priorities.
