Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to develop an industry-leading vector database offering, focusing on speed and relevance in search.
• Contribute to new search features and fix bugs while improving code clarity.
• Work with a globally distributed team of engineers on vector search capabilities.
• Become an expert on Elasticsearch's vector similarity implementation and improve search relevance.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java, as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Experience with vector similarity on large-scale search platforms or in academic research.
• Professional experience with vector databases and algorithms like HNSW and IVF.
• Strong Java skills and familiarity with data structures and concurrency.
• Ability to autonomously take on projects from design to implementation.
• Experience in collaborative development and providing constructive code feedback.
• Familiarity with various data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven track record of applying AI in software development and debugging.
