Procurement Assistant – International Rescue Committee (IRC)
The International Rescue Committee (IRC), a leading global humanitarian organization founded in 1933, is currently recruiting for the position of Procurement Assistant based in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. IRC provides lifesaving assistance and long-term support to people affected by conflict, displacement, and natural disasters across the world.
Job Overview
The Procurement Assistant plays a critical role within the Supply Chain unit, ensuring that all procurement processes are conducted transparently, efficiently, and in compliance with IRC and donor regulations. The role supports the timely acquisition of program supplies, services, and equipment while maintaining strong audit-compliant documentation.
The position works closely with internal departments including Finance, Administration, and Program teams to ensure smooth coordination, timely vendor payments, and adherence to procurement standards.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Planning:
The assistant will support the development and implementation of procurement plans, conduct market assessments, and ensure compliance with IRC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The role also involves collecting and analyzing procurement data to improve decision-making and efficiency.
Procurement Execution:
Responsibilities include processing purchase requests, preparing request for quotations (RFQs), participating in tender evaluations, conducting bid analysis, and supporting contract award processes. The role also involves ensuring value for money, transparency, and fairness in all procurement activities.
Contract Management:
The Procurement Assistant will assist in preparing and managing supplier contracts, ensuring timely renewals and compliance with agreed terms and performance indicators. Monitoring supplier delivery and performance is also a key responsibility.
Supplier Management:
The role involves maintaining an updated supplier database, tracking supplier performance, and ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping in line with IRC guidelines.
Compliance and Ethics:
The assistant will support the implementation of donor regulations and internal procurement policies. This includes conducting supplier due diligence, identifying procurement risks or irregularities, supporting audit processes, and ensuring corrective actions are implemented where required.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in procurement or supply chain roles. Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines are essential.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good communication skills in English are required. Knowledge of Hausa and Kanuri languages will be an added advantage.
