Program Coordinator – SAFE Africa (Hybrid: Abuja / Kaduna, Nigeria)
The Song Abubakar Foundation for Empowerment in Africa (SAFE Africa) is recruiting a Program Coordinator to support its mission of empowering young girls, women, and youth across Africa through education, empowerment initiatives, and environmental sustainability programmes.
The Program Coordinator will serve as a key operational leader within the organisation, reporting directly to the Strategic Director. The role is structured as a senior position responsible for overseeing the full lifecycle of programme implementation, ensuring effective delivery of development projects, and driving measurable impact across target communities. The position is hybrid, based in Abuja or Kaduna, with frequent field travel to programme locations including Adamawa and Borno States, and occasional international travel for donor engagement.
Core Responsibilities
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for overall programme management and operational execution. This includes developing detailed work plans, managing budgets, coordinating field logistics, and ensuring timely achievement of programme milestones and reporting requirements. The role also involves supervising consultants and field personnel to ensure effective implementation of activities.
A major aspect of the position is resource mobilisation and fundraising. The Coordinator will lead efforts in identifying funding opportunities, writing concept notes and grant proposals, and maintaining a pipeline of prospective donors. The role requires active engagement with bilateral donors, multilateral organisations, and philanthropic foundations, as well as participation in donor meetings and funding forums.
The position also involves stakeholder and partner management, serving as the primary liaison between SAFE Africa and external partners such as NGOs, CSOs, government agencies, and UN bodies. The Coordinator will represent the organisation in technical working groups, coalitions, and strategic engagements.
In addition, the role covers communications, visibility, and public representation duties. The Program Coordinator will support the development of reports, case studies, policy briefs, and communication materials, while also ensuring compliance with donor visibility requirements. Representation at conferences, community events, and media engagements is also required.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) is a key function of the role. The Coordinator will ensure proper implementation of MEL frameworks, oversee data collection and analysis, and prepare high-quality donor reports. The role also includes coordinating baseline, midline, and end-line evaluations to assess programme impact.
Requirements
Applicants must possess a Master’s degree in Development Studies, International Development, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or a related field. A Bachelor’s degree with strong and relevant experience may also be considered. Candidates should have 3–5 years of progressive experience in programme management, preferably within the NGO, humanitarian, or development sector.
Additional requirements include demonstrated experience in grant writing and fundraising, multi-stakeholder coordination, and working with institutional donors such as USAID, FCDO, UN agencies, or private foundations. Experience working in Nigeria’s North-East or similar fragile environments is considered an advantage. Professional certifications such as PMP or PMDPro, as well as MEL or safeguarding training, are beneficial.
The application deadline is 30th June 2026.
