Internship Overview

The Program, Sponsor Relations and Communications Intern will play an important role in supporting sponsorship operations and strengthening relationships between sponsored children, their families, communities, and sponsors.

The position will also support communications activities by documenting program achievements through photography, videography, storytelling, and community engagement initiatives.

The successful candidate will work within the Nairobi Metropolitan Program and contribute to increasing visibility of ChildFund’s impact across project sites located in Nairobi, Kiambu, and Murang’a counties.

Key Objectives of the Internship

The internship is designed to achieve two primary goals:

Strengthening Sponsor Relations

The intern will assist in:

• Sponsorship correspondence management
• Child profile updates
• Record maintenance and database support
• Monitoring sponsorship deliverables
• Supporting communication between sponsors and enrolled children

Enhancing Program Documentation and Visibility

The role includes:

• Capturing photographs and videos of project activities
• Developing success stories and human-interest features
• Supporting report preparation
• Producing content for communication platforms
• Showcasing program achievements to stakeholders

Core Responsibilities

Sponsor Relations Support

The intern will work closely with Program and Sponsorship Officers to:

• Support child and household enrolment processes
• Maintain sponsorship records in the CAMEL system
• Monitor sponsorship correspondence quality
• Ensure compliance with ChildFund sponsorship standards
• Track delivery of sponsor-related commitments

Program Implementation Support

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with planning and coordination of activities
• Participating in field visits
• Supporting beneficiary registration processes
• Monitoring project implementation
• Preparing activity reports and meeting minutes
• Assisting with presentations and documentation

Communications and Documentation Responsibilities

A major component of the internship involves storytelling and multimedia content creation.

The selected candidate will:

• Capture photographs and videos during field activities
• Conduct interviews with beneficiaries and stakeholders
• Develop success stories and impact narratives
• Produce content for reports and communication materials
• Organise digital media archives
• Maintain properly labelled photo and video libraries

The intern will regularly visit project sites to document activities across thematic areas including:

Digital Communications and WhatsApp Channel Management

The internship also includes supporting digital engagement initiatives.

Key duties include:

• Supporting management of the Nairobi Metropolitan Program WhatsApp Channel
• Publishing updates and multimedia content
• Increasing stakeholder engagement
• Drafting short stories and activity summaries
• Coordinating content submissions with the Country Office communications team

The role requires adherence to ChildFund branding guidelines and communication standards.

Commitment to Child Safeguarding

Child safeguarding is a central responsibility of the position.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Protect participant privacy and dignity

Qualifications and Skills Required

ChildFund is seeking candidates with a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree, completed or ongoing, in areas such as:

Preferred Skills and Experience

Ideal candidates should demonstrate:

• Interest or experience in photography and videography
• Familiarity with editing tools such as Canva or CapCut
• Experience using WhatsApp and digital communication platforms
• Strong Microsoft Office proficiency
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities
• Report writing and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
