    Research Analyst I – International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)

    The Development Strategies and Governance Unit of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is seeking a qualified and motivated Research Analyst I to join its team at headquarters in Washington, DC.

    The successful candidate will support quantitative research projects focused on agricultural productivity, market and value chain development, migration, agriculture-nutrition linkages, public investment, political economy, and related development issues.

    This role offers an opportunity to contribute to high-impact research, collaborate with leading experts, and potentially co-author research papers and reports that influence policy and development practice globally.

    Key Responsibilities

    Research and Data Analysis

    • Clean, manage, maintain, and analyze large and complex datasets using STATA.
    • Support data collection and data management activities.
    • Conduct econometric analyses and assist with research design.
    • Prepare statistical tables, charts, and visual presentations of findings.

    Research Support

    • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize existing research.
    • Assist in drafting and editing research papers, technical reports, policy briefs, blogs, and presentations.
    • Support proposal development and other research-related activities.

    Knowledge Sharing

    • Participate in knowledge exchanges and professional learning activities.
    • Stay informed on current research, policies, and best practices in agriculture, value chains, economic development, poverty reduction, and related fields.
    • Deliver presentations and training sessions on survey design and data analysis.

    Additional Duties

    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the research team.

    Required Qualifications

    Education

    Applicants must possess either:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, International Development, or a closely related field, plus at least two years of relevant professional experience; or
    • A Master’s degree in one of the above-mentioned disciplines.

    Technical Skills

    • Strong proficiency in STATA for data management, processing, and statistical analysis.
    • Knowledge of econometric methods and identification strategies.
    • Experience conducting literature reviews and synthesizing research findings.
    • Ability to prepare policy briefs, research papers, and presentations.

    Professional Competencies

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Candidates with the following qualifications will have an advantage:

    • Experience conducting research in developing countries.
    • Experience supporting research paper and proposal development.
    • Working proficiency in French, Portuguese, and/or Spanish.

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged periods of desk-based and computer work.
    • Ability to lift up to 10 pounds when required.
    • Close visual attention required for data analysis, reading, document preparation, and computer-based tasks.

    Hybrid Work Arrangement
