Overview
Verra is seeking a Senior Program Officer to support oversight of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) and enhance their auditing capabilities within Verra’s programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee notifications of upcoming VVB validation and verification audits, identifying opportunities for performance observation audits.
- Plan, coordinate, and conduct performance observation audits, liaising with internal teams, VVBs, and project proponents.
- Document audit findings and manage follow-up activities.
- Review documentation submitted by VVB applicants to ensure completeness and compliance with Verra standards.
- Maintain and analyze VVB performance data and support the development of performance scorecards.
- Serve as the primary contact for internal and external inquiries related to VVB oversight.
- Support the technical review of VVB applications, including reviewing submitted documentation and communicating with applicants.
- Assist in developing and maintaining standard operating procedures for auditing and accreditation processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent application of Verra’s program rules.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of VVB oversight and auditing standards.
Requirements
- Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years working with VVBs or accreditation bodies.
- Strong knowledge of climate change mitigation, carbon standards, and sustainability science.
- Familiarity with Verra standards, ISO standards (e.g., 17029, 14065, 14064), and social auditing standards.
- Demonstrated experience in auditing techniques and quality assurance.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with international stakeholders and travel up to 50% if required.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
- Relevant university degree; advanced degree preferred.
- Certifications in auditing or related standards are advantageous.
