Overview

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry, providing essential services for grocery delivery. The Senior Software Engineer on AI Labs & Foundations will design, build, and operate high-scale production systems for innovative AI experiences used by millions of customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate production AI-powered systems and agent experiences.
• Develop foundational systems for AI experiences, including infrastructure and integrations.
• Integrate foundation models via APIs, utilizing techniques like retrieval-augmented generation.
• Own projects end-to-end, ensuring reliability, latency, and cost efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ship AI features.
• Promote engineering excellence and best practices for AI/ML production engineering.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a senior software engineer with production systems at scale.
• Hands-on experience with AI or ML in production.
• Experience with end-to-end service ownership, including CI/CD and automated testing.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work across disciplines.
• Proficiency in Golang, Python, or Typescript.
• Ability to leverage cutting-edge development tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5 to 8+ years of industry experience.
• Experience with building conversational agents or dialogue systems.
• Knowledge of STT/TTS, LLM fine-tuning, and model training.
• Experience with embedding systems and vector search.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and containers.
• Experience with event-driven or distributed systems.
• Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional teams.
