Senior Software Engineer - Query Engine, Database Internals - Elasticsearch @Elastic

Overview

The role involves working as a Senior Software Engineer on the Elasticsearch - Analytical Engine team, focusing on building new analytics capabilities in Elasticsearch using a new compute engine and the ES|QL query language. This position is fully remote and part of a globally distributed team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities

• Full-time contribution to Elasticsearch by developing new features and fixing bugs in a data-intensive environment.
• Research and implement optimal data structures and algorithms for various functionalities.
• Collaborate with teams to ensure a good user experience in the UI.
• Act as an expert in Elasticsearch, guiding others and improving the system based on insights.
• Engage with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write modern Java code as Elasticsearch is primarily Java-based.

Requirements

• Strong skills in core Java and familiarity with its standard library, especially data structures and concurrency.
• Experience in software systems engineering.
• Desire to optimize and utilize efficient data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to manage projects from design to implementation with high autonomy.
• Experience in collaborative development, especially in remote settings.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies like Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven record of using AI for development and debugging.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and transitions between projects efficiently.
