Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. This globally-distributed team focuses on enhancing search experience using advanced algorithms and scalable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to create an industry-leading search engine, ensuring speed and relevance.
• Build new search features and resolve bugs in Elasticsearch.
• Work with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Enhance search relevance and drive improvements based on analysis and instincts.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and pull requests.
• Write idiomatic modern Java code.

Requirements

• Professional experience with search or vector databases, using algorithms like HNSW or IVF.
• Strong skills in core Java, including proficiency with data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Ability to work autonomously, taking projects from concept to completion.
• Experience with collaborative development and providing feedback on code.
• Familiarity with data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Track record of using AI for development and debugging complex systems.
• Capability to collaborate across functions and manage transitions between projects.
• Strong communication skills for distributed team environments.
