Senior/Staff Data Engineer @Render

Overview

Render is building a modern cloud platform for developers creating AI-native, full-stack, multi-service applications. They are looking for a Senior/Staff Data Engineer to join their Data team, setting the technical direction for systems that power analytics and operational decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the Data Platform Engineering architecture and lead design decisions for core data systems.
• Build and operate trusted data pipelines, ensuring accurate and timely data delivery.
• Evolve the orchestration platform, focusing on operational reliability and performance.
• Improve warehouse reliability and performance in the BigQuery environment.
• Develop cloud services and infrastructure, including APIs and event-driven ingestion.
• Establish engineering standards to improve operational practices and reduce technical debt.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements and validate outputs.
• Support data science and AI workflows by preparing model-ready datasets.
• Mentor and grow the team’s technical capabilities through code review and coaching.

Requirements

• Technical leadership experience as a tech lead or Staff-level engineer.
• Deep expertise in modern cloud data warehouses like BigQuery, Databricks, or Snowflake.
• Strong skills in Python and SQL with experience in building data pipelines.
• Experience with orchestration platforms such as Prefect or Airflow.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code.
• Experience in building cloud applications or backend services.
• Sound production engineering practices, including CI/CD and version control.
• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
